The Raiders jersey includes artwork related to Reconciliation Day 2020, Monday June 1st 2020.
ACT is Australia’s first jurisdiction with a Reconciliation Day holiday. The ACT Legislative Assembly voted on Thursday 14 September 2017 to amend Australia’s Holidays Act. Tripartisan support was also present. This annual public holiday is a reminder of the year since the 1967 Australian Referendum. National Reconciliation Week starts at this moment.
Two amendments to the Australian constitution regarding Indigenous Australians have been approved by the Australian referendum which took place 27 May 1967. These amendments received overwhelming support. 90.77% supported them, and all six states had them. These amendments included sections 51(xxvi), and 127. The result was that Aboriginal Australians could now be included in population calculations.
The amendments were not designed to give Aboriginal persons the right vote which was introduced in 2012 and citizenship. Many of those federal-state laws that discriminated against Aboriginal persons had been repealed before 1967.
This Indigenous Jersey, which is part of Raiders NRL and will be worn during Round 12 (2020 NRL Season), is available for purchase here
